1) Make sure you synchronize the watch with the sensor before testing the sensors by going into "Configure" then "Sensors". You will select the "Speed/Cadence" option and select "Scan". I usually move the pedals around to get the magnets to pass by each other (not sure if it will synchronize otherwise. When successful, it will say "Scan Successful" or something like that.
2) Make sure that when you synchronize the watch ("Configure | Sensors"), select "Scan" on "Speed/Cadence" and not just "Speed" and/or "Cadence". I figured this out when I tested this on my brother's Garmin Speed/Cadence meter (yes, the TIMEX works with Garmin's ANT+ signal as well); and it only worked when scanning using "Speed/Cadence".
3) You pretty much have to make sure the distance tolerances are met as specified by the instructions. It's possible the chain stay is too far from the crank for it to work. You can tilt/move the cadence sensor closer to the crank as was needed for my Giant Trinity bike. You can also turn the speed sensor to tilt inwards to meet the 3/8" (10mm) distance tolerance requirements.
4) Make sure there is a battery inside the sensor. It should be the flat shiny side out towards you when you open it.
5) If you still can't get this unit to work, try using another ANT+ standard cadence meter. I know my TIMEX GPS watch works with my brother's Garmin Speed/Cadence sensor on his bike (also a Giant Trinity bike).
I am liking that I can see my cadence along side my heart rate, speed, and altitude. BTW, when my speed/cadence sensor is on, my watch is still recording GPS location as I found out the first time I analyzed my test workout on trainingpeaks.com.
