Spenco 2nd Skin Aquaheal Review

These clear gel bandages really do help burns heal faster, and with less pain. But the adhesive peels back and gets dirty, so they won't stay on as long as non-clear gel bandages, so I use more of them. I have a package that expires in November of 2013, and recently applied one to a fresh cut on my hand. I couldn't figure out where the foul odor was coming from, I kept washing my hands, sniffing my soap and hand towels. It wasn't a medicinal odor (I use various medical supplies daily so I'm familiar with scents and smells of adhesives, etc). It smelled like stagnant water gone bad; or if you discover wet clothing in your gym bag or trunk that's begun to mildew. I've smelled that same stink from old lotion or conditioner that needed to be discarded, but never in a sterile product, especially one that will be applied to burned or cut flesh. I immediately changed the bandage, but the next one smelled just as bad. I even checked with my husband, who agreed "oh, THAT doesn't smell good".
I spplied a different brand of bandage, and called Spenco's customer service. They tried to help me, and the woman I spoke to said that I should return the remaining bandages to them, but then said she'd better speak to a different department, and call me back. When she did, she reported that someone at Spenco opened one of their packages, agreed that there was "an odor", but that's how it was supposed to smell. Eeew! I was surprised that they wouldn't want to make sure there wasn't a manufacturing problem somewhere, or make sure that mine was just an unexpected, stinky fluke. But if that's the odor this sterile product is supposed to have, it's a real shame, because I initially liked it. I don't know if all my gel bandages had gone bad after I first used them, or if they always stunk, but were far enough away from my face that I couldn't smell them (I doubt it). Regardless, I won't risk buying this product again.
