When I was first gifted with this Maryland message fan, I thought it was just a silly personal fan with all the force of a baby's breath. The fan blades are soft plastic that sometimes get caught on the Terp player's helmet. In one blade are embedded what look like tiny LED bulbs.
Turn it on and you see Terps magic. Red lights come on and spell three fan messages. The letters come on gradually as the two blades spin quietly. Very cool. However, the novelty soon diminishes for the jaded fan. Bring out this fan when watching the Terps in a darkened room or bar. Show it to friends or family members who will be awestruck and want to try the fan for themselves.
Watching Terps football by yourself? Have a Terp party of one with the always smiling head on the Terps fan keeping you company. I could even bring out my University of MD Mr. Potato Head for a fun threesome.
This was a fun gift to receive. I doubt very much I'd ever buy one for myself though.
